Congrats to all who have made your JAE decisions..

Now all you have to do is to wait for the result of the enrolment..hah! sound scary eh?!

Whatever it is, i hope you get to enter into your desired institution & course!

(In my case..)
I didnt manage to get into my 1st choice. 
I was being posted to my 5th choice which was Property Dev & Facilities Mgmt in SP

A course which i was totally clueless about.
I can still remember during the 1st lesson, i was quite shock to find out that im going to study a module known as construction technology!!!
Something so foreign lah!

Imagine, we actually have to learn the process of constructing a building, the type of building structure and understanding how structural load will affect the building blah blah blah..

Sound dry eh?

But guessed what?

As lesson progresses, i realised that what im studying was really related to the actual industry! 
Thus it got me really interested in the building industry as i can relate it to my surrounding..
It’s like building is everywhere – our classroom, canteen, hdb, workshop, private housing and etc..

Now that i have graduated, I can proudly say that I am HAPPY that i got into my 5th choice instead of the 1st..
Cause i have gained practical and relevant knowledge in the property industry which i am able to excel in..
Which is a good thing for me..

Soooo.. All the best in your enrolment~
Remember: do excel in wherever you are posted to ya..

Believe many of you are making a decision right now – where to go? Poly/ JC/ ITE/ private sch/ overseas? Which Poly? Which JC? Your O’Level results would also have determined more or less the school you can go…

If you need help on more info on the difference between Poly and JC – just browse through our post archives and get some insights In short, actually, the key thing is to understand yourself : Ask yourself 1 question: What is my learning style?

From that.. you will more or less get a grasp of what type of school environment suits you. As mentioned before, Poly is more hands-on (project based), while JC is more critcal-thinking based. Of course, I’m not suggesting one is separated from the other, but in summary, that pretty sums up the kind of assignments you will receive in Poly and JC.

Bounce off the decision with your parents and senior siblings who love you – they will give you good advice you need! =) Remember to know where your interest lies and pursue it.  E.g many Polys offer the type of course which you can learn from.

I’ll never forget the day I decided on Singapore Poly – it was a great new season of my life which I have never regretted!
So make the choice that would most suit you – may it be your ideal school!

Today is THE day – O’Level Results are released! Whohoo!

Hope you guys gotten the desired results I’ve received some calls from youths who shared good news and are now out celebrating with no curfew! haha…

For those who did not receive that good results, don’t fret – just don’t give up in believing your future is still bright! Just keep the spirit of learning and being happy there – you’ll succeed anywhere in life!

SP Open House is happening this week from 7-9 Jan’10! I’m so excited, cos ….. I will be there too!

Well, what are you, Da Jie, doing at the Open House?

Hmm.. I’ll be attending cos’ I want to visit my beloved ex-school – and hope to catch some of you there too! I’ll be there on Thu, 7 Jan, 2.30pm till late afternoon – so come by say Hi to me if you see me at the Open House! We could take a photo together!

You’ll land in a good school, a school that will yield good experiences for you in this new season in life.

May the NEW YEAR be a SUPER ULTRA GOOD year for everyone here!

Had my NewYear countdown party in our hotel room..
Bought a Superb strawberry+mango pudding cake
Had gift exchange with everyone..
Played games with all the adults..

My Christmas eve~

I celebrated it with my friends
Had Lunch, dinner and our after dinner programme!

Met my girls for lunch at this pasta restaurant..
Didnt manage to take pictures with everyone..
After lunch – Shopped around town for some gift! (last min shopping) hah!

Dinner – Headed down to Blujaz @ Haji Lane to meet my polymates!
Love the ambience at this cafe..Their decorations and foods are FANTASTIC!

Had a chatting session about everything..
From army to work to school and etc.. Great catching up!

Had a little gift exchange session too!

Yupp! After that, they headed down to my house for the after dinner programme..
Had Mahjong session with them  
We played all the way till 6am.. LOL

So yea~ Hope you guys had FUN with your Christmas Eve too!

Its Christmas day today, and im spending it together with my family..
Had to pack my stuff too~
We are all leaving Singapore in less than 12 hours for HOLIDAY! WOOOOOO
Will be back on the very first day of 2010!

Christmas is just around the corner (in fact, it’s just next week!)..

Have you bought any gifts for your friends and family?

For me,
I have not even started shopping for any YET! ! ! ! Gosh..
Have been working part-time for the past few days..
Will be getting my pay tomorrow! WOOOoO.. I like the feeeeeeeling!

Anyway, back to the topic…

There are sooo many things i have not started planning yet..

Like :
what to wear for Christmas party,
what to buy for gift exchange,
what to bring for Pot luck,
plan different date for different group of friends for gathering
and most importantly,
WHAT TO DO DURING CHRISTMAS DAY! lol

Do share with me your plans or suggestions or any ideas for this Christmas!

hmm.. Let’s see..

- It is pretty different from secondary school
- No more form teacher/standard recess time/standard time-table/uniforms and etc..

- Different schools (business/built environment/design/Engineering/nursing, etc)are located in different buildings. – Huge campus
- Lessons can be held in Lecture hall/ Classroom/ Workshop/ Laboratory
- Time table will not be the same for every week.. Today(8am – 11am), tomorrow(12pm-5pm) and etc
- Break time varies from 30mins/ 1hr/ 2hr/ 3hr in between lessons..

- No major exams like Olevel.. Exams are broken down in semesters
- Some courses dont even have exams (heavily project based)
- Have hands on experience and develop useful skills needed for that particular industry

- Students are required to be self-disciplined and independent
(lecturer will not chase after you to attend lessons. You have to be responsible for your own actions)
- Opportunity to have attachment with local or oversea company (3 to 6 months)

- Regarding project wise, it really depends on what course you enter..
For eg:
Creative media design – a course with no exams, purely based on projects and assignments.
Property development and facilities mgmt – a course which have tutorials, assigments, group work, projects and exams..
(it’s a mix of all)

- If you think that coming poly doesnt require you  to memorize chunks of words and stuff, you’re wrong!
Some courses have powerpoint slides/notes or thick textbooks for us to study and to memorize for our exams..(depending on what module too)

- You will have a Final Year Project (FYP) which will be graded as 1 module in your 3rd year results.
- You will be assisted by a lecturer during your 6 months of FYP period..(fyp are done either individually or in groups)

- There are a whole lot of clubs or CCAs to choose from. (it is NOT compulsory to join)
- Hardly get to know other people from other schools if you did not join any clubs or ccas..
- Join a cca/clubs (have opportunity to go overseas – leadership training camp/exchange programmes/charity work/adventure trips!) <<same goes to JC!

- Most importantly, in order to get into local uni, you are required to perform well in your overall GPA( probably GPA 3.4 and above)..
- If not, you can choose to start work in the real industry with your diploma cert..

Oh, and not to forget.. It will be a 3 years journey in poly..

Have been reading the recent posts on the tagboard.. It’s really awesome to hear and learn what each person’s view of Poly and JC is!

As we’ve mentioned, this site is for O’Level students to congregate and spur each other to a bright new journey next year. You simply need to stir up awareness of your gifts and strengths to ascertain which route is good for you. This decision-making process carries you right through your career decision making in future.

I believe Poly and JC has its own benefits for each youth. Different stroke for different folks. I wouldn’t say that one is superior to the other… For I’ve seen and known many JC and Poly graduates who became successful!

I think the most important question is to ask yourself, “What do I like” – bounce off your decision with your parents, seniors (Poly/ JC graduates) or even your sec school teachers if the route you’re thinking about suits you.

And I’d just to spur you guys, that once the decision is made, simply believe it is for the best and make the best out of your tertiary years! It is most FUN!!!

For this post, am also going to share some snippets of JC

- it is quite similar to secondary school – Just that the lessons are in the form of lectures and tutorial

- You will have a structured and fix timetable

- You will sit a one off examination at the end of 2 years (just like O’levels)

- JC is an institution whereby it is theory orientated
So those who are better at theory and written exams might want to consider JC

- JC offers you a variety of subject combinations
so you need not have to worry so much about the limited and confined subjects you are subjugated to.
For eg: in JC you can mix both arts and science together!

- Similar to Poly, JC exposes you to projects too!
There is a ’subject’ known as Project work whereby you will be graded at the end of J1.
Which is also included in your A level grading/certificate

In project work, you will be assigned to research on a topic of a few options
and you will be asked to write a report of your project and ultimately give a presentation about your idea during final grading!

JC is also good for people who have not really decide (specifically) on what to do in the future or what degree you will pursue in your college years…cos it gives you a solid foundation certificate while giving you 2 years to explore what you really want (of course, this does not apply for all JC goers, since some are ambitious and have determined to enter a JC with a clear career vision in mind)

You yourself will be the best judge/indicator if you are capable of coping with both the stress and workload you will encounter in JC
So yeah.. continue to research and trust that you’ll make the best decision!
