Well, all good things come to an end!

This is the end of my journey as a blogger of POLYorJC.sg. The experience I had as a blogger here was very interesting. It was worth spending time on my laptop blogging as well as going on blogging assignment trips to get the special scoops. My blogging assignment trips such as Escapade and SP’s open house were truly memorable. It is through this blogging assignment that I met alot of interesting people, gained alot of information on the pros and cons of polytechnics and junior colleges, and finally made my decision on where I want to pursue my studies next. Newly made friends during Escapade are now not merely acquaintances!

Readers of POLYorJC.sg have been quite supportive with your comments. I must thank a certain reader,Stan, who came up with a whole essay to advise me on whether polytechnic or junior college is more suitable for me. Thank you Stan! Your advise really helped me realise some of the pros and cons of the diploma course and A level course!

Overal, this blogging journey has made my passion for writing, blogging and the media scene stronger. This blogging journey has given me guidance to my future career path. This blogging journey made me realise even the littlest choices you make in a part of your life determines your whole precious future. This bloging journey has improved my well being socially too!

I would like to thank Singapore Polytechnic for providing all of us O level students in Singapore a platform to share our feelings and thoughts on the pros and cons of polytechnics and junior colleges,s well as to share our O level frustrations!

Thanks to Karen Ho,Jeramy and Jet for being the most interesting bloggers I know! Karen, thanks for making me laugh with your hyper outbursts and eco-activist blog posts!Jeramy, thanks for being MR Humble! Jet,thanks for the time spent at Escapade and being MR GENIUS.

Finally, thank you to all you readers for your unstinting support. Namely,UnknownAvidReader! HAHA LOL.I love the fact that I am being given a chance to be of some entertainment value through blogging here. Hahahaa.

It was fun being NEZZIE!

BYE!!!

To the romantics and sentimentalists of the world, February 14th, Valentine’s Day, represents a day to reflect on love, friendship and romance. To the skeptics and cynics, Valentine’s Day is nothing but a reason to stick your head in the sand and loathe those who believe there is something to celebrate.

Valentine’s Day is a day for gifts, cards and candy hearts. It’s also a day for parties. So why not have a Valentine’s Day party to improve your spirits!

Maybe you have and maybe you don’t have a hunka hunka burnin’ love…but either way, you should still celebrate Valentine’s Day. I have my girlfriends and family whom I LOVE more than anything in this world. So, why not? Valentine’s Day is just another good reason to PARTY.

So if you’re organising a SINGLES party on Valentines’ Day, here are a couple of games I re-created:

As Single as I Wanna Be

- The tone of this one can be with matchmaker intent or to really celebrate the bliss of being single. Do you know a multitude of single people who are looking for love, or some who are happy being single but don’t feel like tagging along with their favorite married couple on Valentine’s Day? Have a singles party! Have your friends invite their friends, and so on, and so on! Next thing you know, you’ll have a huge singles party! Set the mood with your favorite love songs, or better yet, with a tape of your favorite break-up songs.

I’d Rather be in Debt Than in Love (shopping party)

- Gather your best single friends together and go to the closest mall. Shop ’til you drop, baby! Make sure that you avoid any stores with Valentines and or any Valentine’s Day specials, if that will traumatize the group. If this proves to be too difficult, then take ADVANTAGE of the specials so that you at least benefit from something. Gorge on fast food and yummy junk from the candy store. (It’s O.K. because it’s only for one day). Buy anything that lets you be self-indulgent. Support each of your friends to do the same thing.

At the end of the trip, usually when you shut down the mall, continue your shopping spree at the video store and rent some mushy classics. If that doesn’t work, rent the Terminator and let your aggression fly. Take all of your purchases home and share what you bought with your buddies while watching movies and eating more junk food. After the movie, if you just can’t bear to end the evening, invite your friends to make a sleep-over out of it and have a pajama party.

To all the single ladies , hope this helps!

If you’re thinking of creating a fresh new environment for yourself to study in,or revamping your study space because you want a fresh new start, here are a few great tips on how you should go about it!

The space you study in is very important, whether it’s in your living room or at your school. The space you study makes an enormous difference to how you study. It can influence the quality of your reading and writing!

Here are 5 Fantastic Ways to Improve your Study Space !

1. Rearrange or change the furniture

Here is what to do: Sit in your studyspace and look around you. Look for everything that might be distracting. It can be a dead plant, an old uninspiring broke table or the way your furniture is arranged. Then change the thing you can do right away. Throw out the plant; you might even buy a new beautiful one. Make sure that that the furniture is arranged in the most effective way.

2. Surround yourself with inspiration and get rid of distraction

Remove old post-its from our wall, and make sure only to keep the ones you need. Don’t hang them on your wall again, but make a file on your computer where you keep a list of what you need to do and remember. Then you don’t get distracted by papers hanging all around your room.

3. Get rid of all your clocks

Everyone knows how it feels to look at the clock all the time. The creativity disappears and you can’t think about anything else that how many hours you have been in your room studying instead of being outside. Get rid of the clocks and make other deadlines for yourself instead. For example that you have to write on full page, and then you can have a break. Chances are that you’re doing it quickly and efficiently, because you know that when you’re done, you can reward yourself with a little downtime!

4. Tidy up the space

It removes some of the small stresses that maybe accure when you´re studying. The mess on your desk or in the room is distracting you like crazy every time you look away from your computer screen. Spend one day to sort, bin and plan things. Keep your files at your computer tidy. When you have done this you only need around ten minutes every day to keep it clean and tidy. I promise you, it’s worth it.

5. Evaluate your personality and how you like to study

Is it best for you to study for a long period of time, or do you need breaks often to be able to return to your work with more energy? Does it help you with some calm music in the background or is that distracting? Do you like to sit alone or close to your family members?

Remember when I blogged about my wonderful, unforgettable, awesome and fun-filled experience at Escapade on 14th November,an event organised by Singapore Polytechnic just for O level students?

Well, just a little recap,I made numerous friends and exchanged numbers with interesting people.

The event felt like it happened so long ago when it happened only in Novmber last year. This goes to show just how many things have changed for me in just 3 and a half months.

I wanted to meet my “long-lost acquaintances” and decided to text all of them to meet up for dinner!

And so we did … at Plaza Singapura’s Pizza Hut! A total of 12 people came, including our facilitator! It was preety fun chatting with them about our school choices. We all joked and talked alot. It was also one of our fellow INNOer’s 18th birthday,so we celebrated his birthday at the same time. Thanks for the fun time spent, guys!

Nezzie shall save you from your anxieties! (LOL)

The following are some useful tips on how to adapt to a new school!

Steps

Be confident. Walk in to that school with pride. Remember that people base a lot on a first impression.

Get used to the school, walk around it, figure out where your classes are, the bathroom, drinking fountain, etc.

Pack a cold lunch on the first day so that you can get to the lunch room earlier and find a table that you can have to yourself; that way it will not be as embarrassing walking in and having nowhere to sit.

Join in some after school activities, that way you will meet some friends that have the same interests as you.

Introduce yourself to your new teachers, that way they will respect you and have a good idea of you.

Try to look your best the first day of school. Wear your best outfit (not fancy), and do your hair nice and neat.

Tips

Be outgoing. It will get you noticed in a good way. Make sure you’re not over excited to hang out with people — they will want to get to know you before you join a group.

The good thing about starting at a new school is that you get to start over. So be outgoing and happy.

Try to talk to everyone in your class; it’s the best way to make friends.

Don’t try to be popular, most people will like you and respect you more if you be yourself.

Don’t lie, or say stuff about your self that isn’t true. You’ll just keep doing it, and it will be very obvious that its not true.

With these tips at your fingertip, making friends will be a breeze for you! All the best!

I was thinking, what else would us O level peeps want to know while awaiting our posting results or for school to start?

For those of you who are going into Polytechnic, school starts in April. So if you’re job-hunting,these might help you!

1O JOB HUNTING TIPS by Randall S. Hansen

So, how can you make a great impression on your next job-search? Easy! Simply incorporate these tips the next time you are seeking a new job.

1. Be polite. Whether it’s a networking event, job fair, or other career-related event, showcase your inner strengths by patiently waiting your turn to speak with recruiters or hiring managers , properly shake hands (dry, firm, one-handed shake), and address the each person by his or her title (Dr., Ms., Mr.) and last name (unless the event is extremely informal — then you can use first names). There are times in job-hunting in which assertiveness is important (to demonstrate your interest in the job), but there is no excuse for not being polite.

2. Dress for the occasion. For job-search events in most professions, the suit is the expected attire — and especially for the job interview. You can do your research and determine the level of attire you need, but if you can’t, then it’s always much better to dress above than dress below. [Read more in this article on Quintessential Careers: When Job-Hunting: Dress for Success.]

3. Be punctual. One of the biggest etiquette mistakes a job-seeker can make is arriving late. Whether you’re simply going cross town or driving a great distance, always know the route you’re going to take, take a practice run (if possible), and build in extra time for getting lost, street closures, and accidents. Finally, don’t overstay your welcome — even if your return flight is hours away; when the interviews are done, say your thank-yous and leave.

4. Learn to listen. While a great deal of time is spent helping job-seekers prepare great job-search related communication tools — elevator speeches and interview responses — the art of listening is often overlooked. Ignoring what a recruiter or a network contact is saying so that you can simply throw in another plug for yourself is simply rude.

5. Be knowledgeable. Appearing ignorant — or disinterested — about a prospective employer is a major lapse in job-search etiquette. By showcasing your knowledge of the employer (and even the interviewer), you demonstrate how serious you are about the opportunity while also gaining serious etiquette points. Preparation is a key skill to learn.

6. Appear upbeat. Even if you are having a bad day, do not let outside circumstances affect your demeanor in a job-search situation. A positive attitude — which includes things like enthusiasm, smiling, good posture, and strong eye contact — can go a long way to making a lasting and positive impression. People want to work with happy, friendly people.

7. Communicate well. While most job-seekers have learned how to communicate in face-to-face situations, there is often quite a bit of room for improvement in phone and email communications — and because more of the job-search has moved into these non-personal methods, you should learn rules of phone and email etiquette. Regardless of the venue, good communication is essential to job-search success.

8. Avoid interruptions. Before heading into a job-search event, turn off cell phones, PDAs, pagers, etc. At a minimum, the device may distract both you and the person you’re speaking with, but some people are also annoyed by this breach of etiquette. And certainly, never, ever interrupt someone so you can answer your device unless you know it’s an emergency. (And, in fact, never interrupt anyone for any reason.)

9. Eat and drink well. No, this tip does not refer to pre-interview meals, but to understanding and using simple table manners — which especially come into play when the interview process spills over to include one or more meals. And besides knowing which fork to use and which water glass is yours, remember not to order the messiest nor most expensive item on the menu — and avoid alcohol consumption.

10. Always show appreciation. Most studies continue to show that a fairly sizable number of job-seekers do not acknowledge and thank the people they meet in networking events, job fairs, or even job interviews. The simple act of writing a short thank-you note to each person you meet in your job-search can literally be the deciding factor in you obtaining an interview — or better, receiving the job offer. [Read more in this article on Quintessential Careers: FAQs About Thank You Letters.]

Actually,I’ve been job-hunting ever since my Escapade event at Singapore Polytechnic.

But as you know. I’m very fussy. HAAHAAHAA.

Here’s a little recount of a Ben & Jerry’s job inteview I went for.

Went out to the Singapore Zoological Gardens with Dhanisha

What for?

For night safari job interviews.HAHA.

Dhan and I decided to try out for a job at the Zoo’s Ben&Jerry’s instead.

Can you imagine? The both of us will have total fun gobbling up all the cookie doughs! Haha. Well, the manager was hilarious.

Since the minimum work period was 6 months,Dhan and I decided we could work part time while studying .

The first question the manager asked was,”Why do you wanna work at Ben&Jerry’s?” I was dying to say it’s because I wanted strawberry cheesecake, chunky monkey & cookie dough everyday.

Instead, all I answered was,”Cos’ it’s really intesting to work here!” Dhan said,”Cos’ it’s top rated in the F&B business!” Before Dhan could finish off her answer though, the manager said,”Really ah?”and grabbed the application forms for us.

We submitted the forms and got a a really typical answer. “We’ll call you.”

NOW YOU SEE HOW HARD IT IS TO GET A JOB?!!

Do you believe in love? Like really believe that there is such a thing as love.

Are you practical rather than emotional when it comes to relationships? Or the other way round?

Do you believe in marriage? LOL

Do you think teenagers are naive when it comes to dating? Why?

Parents should encourage teenage dating! It allows us to gain exposure! Agreed?

At what age do you imagine yourself getting married?

When do you think is the right time for us to date if not now?

Career first! Not marriage duh!!!!! Agreed?

Describe love(if you think you know) in a sentence

It’s not the time to think about love now. More like to decide on poly or jc. Agreed?

Hahahahaha. Okay. Entertaining enough? I just could’nt think of another topic that would interest you guys
